Ashwin Vadivel - Founder

Ashwin Vadivel is an electrical and software engineer with deep experience in autonomous systems, embedded software, and machine learning. His data-driven approach to problem solving carries directly into how Quarantine Lab operates — where every treatment decision is grounded in daily testing, microscopy data, and expert veterinary guidance.

Dr. Robert Martinez, DVM, Certified Aquatic Veterinarian

Dr. Rob Martinez is a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian and graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, with training spanning zoo medicine, aquaculture, ornamental fish, elasmobranchs, and marine mammals. A member of WAVMA, IAAAM, and AAFV, Dr. Martinez serves as Quarantine Lab's consulting veterinarian — reviewing microscopy results and guiding treatment decisions to ensure every fish receives evidence-based, expert-level care.

Our shared mission

Together, Ashwin and Dr. Martinez share a deep commitment to the welfare of aquatic animals and the health of the aquariums they enter. Fish endure significant physiological stress during capture and transport. Left unaddressed, these factors are the leading cause of disease outbreaks and losses of new arrivals in home aquariums. Quarantine Lab was built to change that. Our protocol combines daily observation, proper husbandry, and veterinary-guided medical treatment to ensure every animal is not just parasite-free, but fully acclimated to aquarium life before it ever reaches your tank. For us, this isn't just a service - it's a standard we believe the hobby deserves.

Sources of inspiration

Quarantine Lab was shaped by those doing this right. FisHotel and humble.fish were foundational influences for our approach to ornamental marine quarantine. Both are doing exceptional work, and we encourage you to explore their sites and support them. On the veterinary side, the evidence-based protocols and clinical standards developed through organizations like WAVMA and IAAAM set the bar we hold ourselves to.
